Zoho CRM Update: Use Queries to Power Custom Related Lists with Dynamic Data

 Hello everyone,

We hope you’re having a fantastic day!

Some time ago, Zoho introduced Queries in Zoho CRM—a feature designed to help you retrieve real-time data from CRM modules or even third-party sources, all within your CRM environment. Many of you have already used Queries with Canvas views (both record detail and list) and Kiosk to build more tailored and data-rich user experiences.

Zoho introduced the next evolution of this feature: You can now link queries to custom related lists!

So, what’s new?

Custom related lists let you show additional, relevant data alongside your CRM records—whether that data comes from another CRM module, a custom app, or an external service. With this latest enhancement, you can now drive these related lists using Queries, making them far more responsive and intelligent.

Here’s a quick example:

Let’s say you have a custom module called Orders to monitor product deliveries. You want to show a list of local post offices that can deliver to the order’s shipping address—and have this list automatically update for each record.
Now, with this update, you can set up a query that connects to an external API, fetches post office data using the Shipping Code as an input, and link it to a custom related list. The result? A real-time, auto-refreshing list of available delivery options—right next to each order.

The query would look something like the one shown in the image.

To set this up, check the REST API section to build a query using an external data source, and head to the Custom Related Lists section for detailed instructions on linking the query to the related list.

The following GIF demonstrates how the related list gets dynamically updated using the query.

Why this is a game-changer

Using Queries with Related Lists unlocks a new level of customization and power. You can now:

  • Replace static lists with live, dynamic data.

  • Display real-time, context-aware information for each record.

  • Reduce dependency on lookup fields—fetch what you need on the fly from both CRM and external systems.
