IP Restrictions

IP Restrictions

What is meant by IP address?

Internet Protocol address, abbreviated as IP address, is a unique series of numbers used to identify a device or a network. These addresses can be used to know where information is being sent and received over the Internet.

In this document, we will be specifically covering the IP addresses of networks you get connected to when you are using Zoho's services.

What is IP restriction?

IP restriction is a feature that allows you to whitelist the IP addresses you use to access Zoho's services. By configuring IP restrictions, you can limit the networks you get connected to while accessing Zoho. Any access attempts from networks having IP addresses that are not added to the whitelist will be denied.

Let's use two scenarios to explain this:

Case 1: Secure your personal Zoho account

Consider your Zoho account that you only access when you are present in your workstation (or multiple such workstations). You can configure a restriction that your account can be accessed only when you are present in those workstations. This will restrict you from accessing this account using public networks and hackers from accessing your account as it would require actual presence in your workstations. You can configure allowed IPs at accounts.zoho.comLearn how

Case 2: Secure your organization users' accounts

If you're an administrator of an organization and you want your employees to access their Zoho accounts only using certain secured networks, you can collectively apply IP restrictions your users' accounts by configuring security policies. Learn how
Notes
Note: In these two scenarios, once an IP restriction is applied, the Zoho account can only be accessed from the configured IP addresses. When trying to access from an IP address that is not included, access will be denied for the user.

How to add an allowed IP address

You can configure IP restriction by adding IP addresses of the required networks as allowed IP addresses. You have the option to add:
  1. Your current IP address
  2. A static IP address
  3. A range of IP addresses (i.e., you can set a range of addresses as allowed instead of adding individual IPs as static IP addresses)
Alert
Warning: The addresses you enter must be static gateway IPs and not dynamic IP addresses, as it might lead to your account getting locked. If you do not know your default gateway address, consult your admin.

To add allowed IP address for your account

  1. Sign in to accounts.zoho.com.
  2. In the left menu, click Security.
  3. Click Add Allowed IP Address under Allowed IP Address.
  4. Select your current IP address or manually enter the required IP address or range of IP addresses.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Name the IP Address, then click Add.
If you want to remove an allowed IP address, click on the IP address, then click Delete.

To add allowed IP address for your organization (as an administrator)

You can add allowed IP addresses for all your organization users, or a selective group of users. You can configure the restriction via the following services (refer to their linked help article to learn how):
  1. Zoho One
  2. Zoho Directory
  3. Zoho Mail
  4. Zoho CRM
Notes
Note: Whitelisting IP addresses prevents unauthorized access and strengthens your organization's security. Once this is configured, you will only be able to access your organization from the allowed IP addresses.

What to do if you get locked out of your account

In case you're not able to sign in from an allowed IP address, refer to this troubleshooting article.

If you are still not able to resolve the issue, contact support@zohoaccounts.com. Our support team will disable the IP restriction after verifying your identity. You can write to us from any email address, but make sure to mention your account email address in the email.
